For many pharmacy students, there can be great barriers to studying abroad. However, an intrepid group of students in the James L. Winkler College of Pharmacy pushed past those boundaries and spent three weeks near the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns and Sydney, Australia.

Gloria Forsythe, A&S ’95, and Pamela Mallory, CAHS ’09, are two members of an ethnic spectrum that spans cultures, countries and continents. Together, Forsythe and Mallory are reaching out to UC’s diverse population of Hispanic and Latino students and alumni through the UC Latino Alumni Network (UCLAN), an affinity group of the UC Alumni Association.

But what about a fashion designer sewing a garment in a couture fashion house in Germany? Or an artist highlighting architectural details of an Italian cathedral in brilliant watercolor? Through his research in aerospace engineering, University of Cincinnati doctoral candidate Anirudh Chhabra aims to develop systems that can help us better explore and understand space. He also aims to fulfill his passion for teaching by pursuing a career in academia post-graduation, teaching others about space exploration and technology. Chhabra’s research as part of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Research Laboratory (IASRL) has been federally funded, and he was named the Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

More research needs to be done to determine whether secondhand vaping is causing the same issues as secondhand cigarette smoke, but researchers such as UC's Ashley Merianos discourage vaping in the office. Merianos, a tobacco use researcher, was cited in an extensive article by The Daily Mail which covered the topic of vape use in the office.
