Brothers with giving hearts support first-generation students

Recognizing a need for first-generation college students in the Greater Cincinnati region, brothers Mike and Jim Rodarte were inspired to act. They co-founded Level Up Cincinnati, a nonprofit that bridges the gaps between high school, college and career with mentorship and coaching for marginalized students.

Alumni Week honors co-workers for dedication to Lindner, UC

A pair of University of Cincinnati and Carl H. Lindner College of Business alumni have been recognized by the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association as part of the 2023 UC Alumni Celebration, which highlights the contributions and overall excellence of UC alumni. Laurence Jones, BBA ’00, has received the Robert E. Dobbs Distinguished Service Award, while Eku Williams, BBA ’00, is Lindner’s Outstanding Alumnus honoree for 2023.

Engineering alumnus presented with lifetime achievement award

Michael Valentine’s career as an innovator and entrepreneur has spanned more than four decades, and has included the creation of an industry-changing radar detector and two successful companies, Cincinnati Microwave, and his current business, Valentine Research. Through the years, Mike and his wife, Peg — both UC alumni — have become prodigious philanthropists at the University of Cincinnati and within the region, giving of their time and treasure to many causes close to their hearts.

Jerry Harris, JD ’72, is not the fearsome litigator you expect when he opens the door to his home. His hair is shoulder-length; his feet are bare. He has two raucous (yet adorable) dogs on leashes and an adorable grandchild on the couch with his wife of 50-plus years, Carol.

2023 Cincinnati Business Achievement Awards honorees announced

Presented by the University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business Alumni Council, the 38th annual CBAAs will be held March 8 at the Cincinnati Museum Center. The region’s longest-standing event that celebrates business achievement as well as service to communities — both locally and globally — the CBAAs also raise funds for scholarships and financial assistance at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Alumnus honored for impact on construction, real estate fields

January 17, 2023

Chris Dobrozsi was presented the Engineering Technology Award of Distinction from the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science. He graduated from UC with an architectural engineering technology degree in 1989. He is now executive vice president of development at Neyer Properties and a city council member in Montgomery, Ohio, where he has made an indelible impact on the construction and real estate industries.

Engineering alum sees K-12 educators as the path to STEM diversity

Keonte Alexander, CECH ’22, is accustomed to mentoring and caring for others. He’s a father and a science and math teacher at William Howard Taft Elementary School in Cincinnati Public Schools. He became interested in serving youth while earning his associate degree at Cincinnati State and working at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati. A tour of the University of Cincinnati’s campus with Club teens piqued his interest.

Trailblazing engineering professor honored with alumni award

Professor Awatef Hamed is a trailblazer. She came of age during a time when few women were going to college to study engineering. In 1968, she left her home in Egypt and came to the University of Cincinnati as the only female graduate student in the aerospace engineering program. She went on to get her master’s and doctoral degrees from UC and then was hired as a faculty member, where she was the only female faculty member for two decades. In 2001, she became the first woman to head a college aerospace engineering department.
