UC Niehoff Center for Film and Media Studies flourishes first year after donation

While the COVID-19 pandemic put many things on hold, it didn’t stop the needs or the creativity of University of Cincinnati students and the local film community. Thanks to a $2.8 million gift in 2020 from Peter A&S ’09, MA ’14, PhD, ’20 and Betsy, A&S ’11 Niehoff, progress at the Niehoff Center for Film and Media Studies has continued. Faculty and students have been able to move forward with community partnerships, research projects, equipment needs and internships, thanks to this support.

UC College of Arts and Sciences to celebrate alumni awards

Four alumni from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences are being recognized for contributions to their professions, their communities and the university next month. Nominated by fellow alumni, faculty or staff and chosen by the college, this year’s honorees include Darlene Walley, chemistry; Shannon E. Finn Connell, ’92, psychology; Charles Barnett, ’71, history; and Brande Victorian, ’07, journalism. They will be formally celebrated at A Night With A&S: A Celebration of Excellence and Philanthropy on April 6.

Alumnus makes gift to University of Cincinnati LGBTQ Center

A University of Cincinnati alumnus has made a $200,000 gift to the university’s LGBTQ Center. Bruce Besanko, A&S ’82, retired Kohl’s chief financial officer, has created the Bruce Besanko Support Fund for the LGBTQ Center. The UC LGBTQ Center enhances the campus community for LGBTQ students and their allies through intentional advocacy, providing a safe space, intersectional programming, and access to culturally relevant resources. The Center has been on campus since 2011. Besanko says he wants to directly impact students who use the center as a resource. His gift will support both operational and direct student support.
