Women who lead: CCM alumna wins La Maestra conducting competition

September 30, 2020

Out of over 200 applicants, 12 conductors made it to La Maestra competition, including three CCM alumni: Tong, Maria Fuller (MM Orchestral Conducting, ’19; AD Opera Coaching, ’17; MM Piano Performance, ‘15) and Jiajing Lai (MM Orchestral Conducting, ‘15). Lai also advanced to the semi-final round.

CCM alumna’s startup featured by TechCrunch’s Disrupt 2020

UC College-Conservatory of Music alumna Randa Minkarah (BFA Broadcasting, ’82) co-founded Resonance AI, which was recently named one of TechCrunch’s Top Picks for Disrupt 2020, a conference (held virtually this year) that promotes tech startups in a variety of categories.

Music at home: Women-focused new music ensemble performs online during pandemic

In 2019, UC College-Conservatory of Music student and now alumna Caroline Sackleh (DMA Bassoon Performance, ’20) created a music collective that focuses on highlighting the skills of women musicians and performing the works of living composers. With that vision in mind, New Downbeat was born. The ensemble now boasts over 20 performers and six affiliated composers, most of whom are CCM students or alumni.
