Spectrum News: UC graduate creates personal styling app

Camryn Ellis plans to release RYN by the end of March

University of Cincinnati alumna Camryn Ellis plans to release her virtual closet and personal styling app to the public by the end of March, Spectrum News reported.

Ellis founded RYN, which provides custom outfit recommendations and the ability to try on clothes virtually, following her own struggles with picking out an outfit.

“The average person has about 100 to 150 pieces in their closet, and we believe that you have enough clothes, you just need to learn how to leverage them,” Ellis said.

According to a study by European retailer Marks & Spencer, the average woman spends 17 minutes a day picking out an outfit while the average man spends about 13 minutes a day.

RYN aims to reduce the stress of fashion by using generative artificial intelligence. The app will be free to use and download, with premium features available through paid versions.

Ellis, who graduated in August 2023 with a bachelor's degree in international business and entrepreneurship from UC’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business, developed RYN with help from UC's Venture Lab and Center for Entrepreneurship. RYN also was one of three winners of a pitch competition called Launch It: Cincy, hosted by Main Street Ventures, a Cincinnati-based organization that provides entrepreneur support.

“I would not have been able to create RYN had it not been for UC,” Ellis said.
