Local media: UC extends Uptown campus confirmation deadline for admitted students until June 1
U.S. Department of Education delays impact student decisions
Several universities across the country are extending their dates to confirm admission for fall 2024.
At the University of Cincinnati, the confirmation deadline for all first-year students admitted to the Uptown campus has been changed from May 1, 2024 to June 1, 2024, at 5 p.m. EST, says Jack Miner, vice provost for enrollment management.
These changes are a result of the U.S. Department of Education’s processing delays that continue to impact Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information being provided to colleges and universities across the country. This extension is being provided so that students relying on financial aid awards can be certain they have this information prior to making a final college selection.
Miner spoke with WLWT-TV about the changes and was also quoted in the Cincinnati Enquirer. Other media including WCPO, Fox 19, Local 12 and WVXU also discussed the confirmation deadline changes.
Due to FAFSA processing delays, students will likely not receive their full financial aid offer from UC until after April 1, 2024. UC will start issuing full financial aid offers as soon as possible. Admitted students who have not filled out their FAFSA applications for 2024-2025 should immediately apply at fafsa.gov.
“What this does is tell the student what type of federal student loan they have,” Miner told WLWT-TV. “Are they pell-grant eligible, or are there state or federal grants available to them? Are they eligible for work study? This is the most significant piece of scholarship and grant information for any student not just at UC but really across the country.”
To accommodate a confirmation deadline extension, UC Housing will now accept housing applications until June 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. EST. A student must be confirmed in order to apply for housing.
