Postel is currently serving as the 18th president of The University of Toledo, a post he has held since July of 2020. President Postel’s leadership experience includes a year as interim president at the University of Louisville and four years as executive vice president for health affairs at UofL. He has more than 25 years of experience in academic medicine, university operations, governance, clinical care, teaching and the support of research.

“I have no doubt that Greg’s heart for leading people, his passion for advancing healthcare, his recognition for the importance of discovery and innovation, and his love for educating the next generation align quite perfectly with the goals for this position and, most importantly, the vision that supports our Next Lives Here strategic direction,” said UC President Neville G. Pinto. “I have come to know Greg quite well as a close colleague while we both were at the University of Louisville and, more recently, as a fellow President in Ohio’s higher education system.”

Postel has an accomplished career as an academic interventional neuroradiologist. He served 18 years as chair of the Department of Radiology at the UofL School of Medicine and held the positions of vice dean for clinical affairs and chairman of the board at University Medical Center in Louisville. He was also the founding board chair and later CEO of University of Louisville Physicians.

“I am excited to bring my experience with academic medical center and university operations, governance, clinical care, teaching and the support of research to the University of Cincinnati,” said Postel. “I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish at UToledo during a challenging time in higher education and know that the leadership team there will continue to turn those challenges into opportunities for success.”

Dr. Postel will succeed Dr. Andrew Filak, who is retiring after serving as senior vice president and dean since 2018.

UC Health President and CEO Cory Shaw said, “On behalf of UC Health, I sincerely thank Dr. Filak for his tremendous contributions to our academic health system for almost half a century. Most notably, as we've come together over this past year to collaborate and position ourselves for a strong future. His legacy will serve as a foundation for generations to come. I have full confidence in Dr. Postel as he's poised to further our academic mission and drive innovation. As we enter our third century, Dr. Postel will be an important partner in shaping our shared journey ahead."

“My sincere thanks to Dr. Filak for his incredible leadership and service to the UC College of Medicine during a career that has spanned more than 45 years,” said President Pinto. “I’d also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the members of the search committee and everyone who took an active role in this important process. Their love for the College of Medicine and the Academic Health Center is clear and very much appreciated.”
