Three lawyers who have waded into the legal issues surrounding the enemy combatants being detained at Guantanamo Bay will be honored on Oct. 31 with the awarding of the William J. Butler Human Rights Medal.

UC entered an elite group on Saturday night with a surprise, history-making announcement. During the public launch of the university s Proudly Cincinnati capital campaign, the goal for that campaign was raised from $800 million to the $1 billion-dollar level.

The UC College of Law begins its 174th academic year on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Among the start-of-year activities for the students will be a welcoming address from Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Mickey Barker, a member of the college's class of 1967.

Stanley M. Chesley, one of the nation's most prominent attorneys and a University of Cincinnati alum, has endowed a professorship at the UC College of Law that will allow the college to attract outstanding law scholars from around the nation and the world as visiting professors.

One of the nation's most high-profile legal figures, Harvard Law Professor Arthur R. Miller, will be teaching at the UC College of Law from Jan. 12-16 as the first Stanley M. Chesley Professor of Law. Miller, a leading expert on privacy issues, is also a familiar public figure with a long history of programs on PBS and serving for a number of years as the legal editor for ABC's "Good Morning America" program.

Chesley Professor of Law, is a familiar figure to millions of viewers for his work as legal editor on ABC's "Good Morning America" and a series of critically-heralded programs on American law that he has hosted on PBS.

The image of the 22-year-old college graduate is, well, old-fashioned. The average age of a University of Cincinnati graduating student is 2007 is 27.5. This mirrors national trends where college students today (and tomorrow) are much more likely to be older students.
