Harry Sparks: architect, luthier to the stars, competitor, ADA pioneer and so much more

Alumnus Harry Sparks is the ultimate go-to guy. An architecture graduate (‘67 ), he has built or remodeled countless retail institutions (think Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Home Depot), casinos, hotels and even the famous Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, General Store, where the tiny town has a dog as its mayor. But that’s just been his day job. After hours, Harry has spent the last 60 years as one of country music’s premier luthiers. Superstars like Vince Gill and Sam Bush come to Harry for acoustic instrument work.

Lindner College of Business alumni have been recognized by the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association as part of the 2023 UC Alumni Celebration, which highlights the contributions and overall excellence of UC alumni. Laurence Jones, BBA ’00, has received the Robert E. Dobbs Distinguished Service Award, while Eku Williams, BBA ’00, is Lindner’s Outstanding Alumnus honoree for 2023.

Lindner student’s startup is helping other student businesses get started

Preston Rhodes has held a long-standing interest in digital assets. The third-year finance major founded the UC Cryptocurrency Club nearly two years ago and recently interned with a blockchain startup. Over the summer, Rhodes came across a software as a startup (Saas) business model that piqued his interest, leading to the founding of his first company, Neoteric Solutions.
