Upcoming changes to Microsoft 365 storage limits

Microsoft recently announced that it will no longer offer “unlimited” storage as part of licensing agreements with its EDU customers. Left unchecked, the University of Cincinnati's utilization will significantly outpace Microsoft’s planned storage limitations and lead to new, additional storage-related costs for the university.

What's happening

The Digital Technology Solutions team will phase in the necessary changes to bring the university’s utilization in-line with Microsoft’s new contracted storage limits over the course of the next two years. The planned approach will avoid additional costs associated with the storage changes when they go into effect July 1, 2026.

What you can expect next

Digital Technology Solutions will use Microsoft-provided tools to track, manage, and optimize the university’s allotment of pooled storage across Exchange, OneDrive, and Teams and SharePoint sites.

  • The initial phases of the project will begin later this summer and continue through June 2026.
  • Digital Technology Solutions will conduct proper testing, produce support documentation and communicate with affected audiences prior to implementing each phase of the plan.

How-to Info & Resources

Digital Technology Solutions has put together tips to guide UC students, faculty, and staff through the changes and help make the most of their available storage in email, OneDrive, and Teams.
