LLM alumna touts Cincinnati Law, University of Bordeaux partnership as exciting experience
Learning from remarkable professors, networking with established legal professionals, and meeting students from all over the world made Lorette Pouhet’s LLM experience at the University of Cincinnati College of Law an important career move—and was a year to remember.
The first student to attend UC Law from the University of Bordeaux, Pouhet (LLM ’24) highlighted her professional and personal growth gained as a result of participating in the LLM program. “The year at the law school was exciting; I learned a lot about law and about myself,” Pouhet said in a recent newsletter from the University of Bordeaux. The “expertise and dedication” of the faculty, attending federal court hearings, and participating in student organizations and events all enriched her experience.
Importantly, Pouhet said she learned how to “solve problems in a system that was completely different from the French system and in another language.” Her LLM cohort, which consisted of about 20 students from 10 countries, provided multiple opportunities to engage with people from different cultures and legal traditions.
The College of Law now offers a two-year double degree with the University of Bordeaux: a master’s degree from the French university’s Faculty of Law and Political Science and an LLM in U.S. Law degree from the University of Cincinnati. The LLM program not only allows students to obtain a degree often required by foreign firms, but also to acquire unique linguistic and legal skills.

UC Law JD and LLM students will have the opportunity to apply to participate in a spring break short course at the University of Bordeaux in 2025.
