School of Education alumna finalist for 2025 Ohio Teacher of the Year
Michelle Dohrmann holds three degrees from UC
University of Cincinnati School of Education and Arts and Sciences alumna Michelle Dohrmann is among the four finalists for the 2025 Ohio Teacher of the Year.
Dohrmann earned three degrees from UC — a bachelor’s degree in English literature (2002) and a bachelor degree in Education (2003) — and a master’s degree in Secondary Education (2005).
"The University of Cincinnati significantly shaped my teaching journey, for which I will always be grateful," says Dohrmann.
Dohrmann has spent her entire career in the West Clermont Local School District, teaching English in grades 9-12, from 2002-2017, and teaching speech since 2002.
Currently she teaches speech and three Teaching Academy courses, where students receive education coursework and internships that might lead to a career in education, at West Clermont High School and was named State Board District 5 Teacher of the Year for 2024-25.
The Ohio Teacher of the Year program began in 1964. Each year, school administrators, fellow educators, parents, students and community members nominate teachers for Ohio’s State Board District Teacher of the Year recognition. In August, one of those teachers is selected to be Ohio's Teacher of the Year. That teacher represents Ohio in that year's National Teacher of the Year selection sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
