"We are thrilled to return to CCM with the United States Marine Band," says Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin. "As a native Ohioan myself, this trip will undoubtedly be a memorable one."

"The connection between “The President’s Own” and CCM is a special one, as so many of our players, especially in the brass section, have received a portion of their formative study from this elite institution."

The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin has chosen a diverse mix of programs, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos.

"It is particularly fitting that, upon his retirement from the Marine Band, Michael Mergen joined CCM as Associate Professor of Trumpet, solidifying a long-standing connection between our two beloved institutions," Nowlin says. "Appropriately, we will feature our virtuosic cornet soloist, Gunnery Sgt. Chris Larios, to showcase the marvels of the trumpet."
