CCM Dance Series presents whimsical 'Coppélia' ballet
A tale of love and mischief brought to life by CCM Ballet Ensemble and CCM Concert Orchestra
Story by CCM Graduate Assistant Kierra Mykel
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) invites audiences to experience the timeless charm and comedic mischief of Coppélia, a family-friendly ballet filled with magic, mistaken identity and joyful romance. Presented as part of CCM's Dance Series and featuring music performed by the CCM Concert Orchestra, the performance runs April 3-6 in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.
Set to the delightful music of Léo Delibes and directed by CCM Dance Chair Shauna Steele, Coppélia tells the story of Swanilda, her fiancé Franz, the eccentric inventor Dr.Coppélius, and the life-like doll Coppélia, who captures Franz's eye — and causes quite the stir. First performed in 1870, this light-hearted ballet blends graceful choreography with theatrical storytelling in a performance perfect for all ages.
CCM's production features restaging and choreography by Isabele Elefson and Tricia Sundbeck, with additional choreography and coaching by Thomas Bell and Gema Diaz Lommer. It highlights the talent and artistry of CCM's exceptional dance students. The enchanting score will be brought to life by the CCM Concert Orchestra, conducted by Aik Khai Pung.
With whimsical costumes, engaging characters and stunning dance, Coppélia promises a vibrant and uplifting performance to welcome spring weather and bring families together through the joy of classical ballet.
