Service For Students At The Heart Of New Building In The Heart Of Campus
University Pavilion has just opened for business at the University of Cincinnati, ending the so-called "UC Shuffle" that sent students from building to building to conduct business such as registering for classes, paying bills or adding or dropping courses. The $32 million, six-story University Pavilion brings student service offices together under one roof at the heart of campus -- a welcoming, convenient, central location.
"We've just taken the shoe leather out of the experience of getting services at the university," says Mitchel D. Livingston, UC Vice President for Student Affairs and Services. "We now have an operating philosophy where there is one building in the heart of campus where we focus on providing basic services for our students."
A One Stop Student Services Center in University Pavilion has cross-trained staff to assist students with registration, records, financial aid, student accounts and collections, all separate functions and formerly located in separate buildings.
"We want students to be challenged in the classroom by their academics rather than challenged by the harassment of bureaucracy," says Stanley E. Henderson, UC Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management. "I really think the concept and the design of this building is going to make that happen."
Designed by Leers Weinzapfel Associates and GBBN Architects, University Pavilion will also serve as the welcome center for prospective students and other visitors. The third floor houses the University Visitors Center with an 88-seat presentation room. A 125-seat multipurpose room can be converted into theater-style seating or classroom seating. The Visitors Center will also feature exhibits and interactive campus tours at the touch of a computer screen.
University Pavilion is the second anchor of UC's MainStreet corridor to open this fall, a pathway that blends student learning and student life on campus. The other end of MainStreet, the $39 million Jefferson Residence Hall Complex, opened last September.
