The Learning Center, President's Quality Service Award Winner

Team members: Phyllis Frederick, Greg Loving, Pam Mavi, Renhong Zhao

TLC means more than tender loving care to students who use The Learning Center (TLC) at UC Clermont. It means a place to get tutoring assistance in every subject taught at Clermont College, help in understanding computers and a supportive environment for study.

The four TLC staff members – Phyllis Frederick, Greg Loving, Pam Mavi and Renhong Zhao – have developed a corps of volunteer students to assist in tutoring. The center recorded over 4,000 student visits per quarter in 2002-03.

“TLC is doing a great job!” remarks one student. “Everyone and everything here is great and very helpful,” says another. “Their willingness to assist students goes beyond normal expectations,” praises Dean David Devier. “Give medals to the staff for a great job!” a faculty member extols.

In addition to their Learning Center duties, each team member works at extra duties – Frederick serves in Disability Services and on the college Diversity Task Force. Zhao teaches math classes and serves as a tutor for the Tech Prep College Readiness Program. Mavi helps in maintaining Disability Services records and tracking student assessment. Loving teaches classes in philosophy, assists with the student newspaper and works in the Adjunct Faculty Association.
