President Joseph Steger, Special Recognition
Dr. Joseph A. Steger steps down as president this month after 19 years of leadership at the University of Cincinnati. He was appointed UC president in July 1984. During his tenure, the university embarked on new construction under a Master Plan that has brought unprecedented change to the campus landscape.
The university also has changed in many other ways under President Stegers leadership. From 1984 to 2002, UCs research ranking rose from No. 78 in the United States to No. 46, while income from patents and licenses grew from zero to $6 million. Internet traffic went from nothing to 20 trillion bytes per month.
President Steger also serves as vice chairman of TechSolve (formerly the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Sciences), chairman of the Board of Drake Center, chair of the Ohio Supercomputer Center Governing Board, member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Board of Directors, member of the Ohio Aerospace Institute Board of Trustees, and a member of the National Commission on Cooperative Education.
He also serves on the Milacron, Provident Financial and Crucible Materials Boards. President Steger has held management positions in both industrial and academic organizations, such as Colt Industries, Prudential and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

January 2, 2025
Each year, January marks National Blood Donor Month, a time to honor the everyday heroes who selflessly donate blood and to inspire more people to join this lifesaving cause. As the sole provider of blood products to 30+ hospitals across Greater Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is calling on the community to make a New Year’s resolution that saves lives: donate blood twice a year! Make it a #HoxworthHabit to donate blood or platelets on your birthday and again before the end of the year. Make a lifesaving resolution this year. To show their gratitude, all blood and platelet donors who give in January, at any of Hoxworth’s seven Neighborhood Donor Centers in Anderson, Blue Ash, Clifton, Ft. Mitchell, West Chester, Tri-County, and West as well as select mobile blood drives, will receive a pair of exclusive Hoxworth sweat pant joggers, celebrating the selflessness of blood donors who make a difference in the lives of others.
