UC s Just Community Sheds Light on America s Obsession with Weight

The UC Just Community Initiative will turn its focus to the growing problem of obesity, body image and personal responsibility during its annual fall program titled “Food, Fitness and Fads: Truth or Consequences” Thursday, Oct. 16 at noon and 3 p.m.

Keynote speaker Ronda Gates, MS, RPh, CLC, a nationally recognized health professional and UC College of Pharmacy alumna, will focus on America’s obsession with weight and how to distinguish fact from fiction when it comes to choices related to maintaining a healthy body and body image. This program is supported by the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost for Health Affairs and the MainStreet Program at UC.

Two presentations have been scheduled.  The first will take place on UC’s east campus at noon in Room E-351 of the Medical Sciences Building.

At 3 p.m., Gates will present in Room 525 of the Old Chemistry Building on UC’s west campus.

Gates has acted as a consultant for Weight Watchers, Walking and Fitness magazines, and is a spokeswoman for Speaking of Women's Health Foundation.  She is the author of five best-selling books, including “Smart Eating,” and “Smart Women, Strong Bones.”  Gates’ company, LIFESTYLES, develops and delivers programs and products that support a healthy lifestyle.  For more information, visit http://www.rondagates.com.
