UC Law Shows Significant Improvement On Bar Exam Results
The overall showing by University of Cincinnati College of Law graduates improved significantly over a year ago on the most recent Ohio Bar Exam. Results from the test given in July were released today by the Ohio State Supreme Court.
UC finished second among Ohio's nine law schools in percentage of its students that passed the test. A total of 87 percent of its first-time test takers and 86 percent of its overall test takers passed the bar.
On the same test last year, UC's marks were 80 percent and 79 percent, respectively.
"We are proud of what this year's group of graduates accomplished on the July Bar," said Joseph Tomain, dean of the UC College of Law. "The improving test scores show that we are headed in the right direction towards our goal of again becoming the leader among Ohio's law schools."
UC's showing this year put the school well above the overall statewide averages of 81 percent of first-time test takers who passed and 73 percent overall. First-time test takers are widely considered the standard for measuring a school's performance on the bar exam.
Ohio State University was the only school to finish ahead of UC in results on the most recent test. Ohio State was ranked No. 38 nationally and UC No. 51 nationally in the most recent "U.S. News & World Report" rankings of America's top law schools. Ohio State and UC were the top two Ohio law schools on the list, with only Case Western at No. 57 also making the top 100 school list.
