Top Cincinnatus Winners
The students selected for Cincinnatus scholarships are not only considered because of their academic achievements, but also because of their dedication to service. The competition is named after a Roman farmer. Cincinnatus led his city to victory when Rome was invaded in 458 BC, then returned to his farm. Here are stories of some of UCs top Cincinnatus Scholars:
Rebecca Poland, awarded a full Cincinnatus scholarship in 2002, is earning real-world experience on the job in Cincinnati.
Candice Leavell was awarded a full Cincinnatus scholarship in 2003, but she says UC was her first choice before she got that news.
Maribeth Mincey was awarded a full Cincinnatus scholarship to the University of Cincinnati in 2002 and is on track to continue on to the UC College of Medicine through the UC Connections program.
Abrar Hammoud was one of the first residents to move into Turner Hall after she was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati in 2002.
Amit Zachariah of Illinois was awarded a full Cincinnatus scholarship in 2001. He spent his high school years volunteering for service at his community hospital and joined a UC service organization his freshman year.
Pianist Aaron Ziegel, also a 2000 award recipient, hit the right note with the competition. He was interviewed for this story in November, 2000.
UC grad Angela Wilson was one of the very first recipients of the Cincinnatus scholarship in 1997. In this 2002 follow-up, she explained why the support of Cincinnatus stretched beyond just finances.
University level scholarship recipient Carrie Foulk was crowned Homecoming Queen in 2001 and graduated from UC in 2002. Find out about her studies that took her around the world.
Vivian Tsang graduated summa cum laude from the College-Conservatory of Music in 2001. She received a full Cincinnatus award in the very first Cincinnatus scholarship competition in 1997.
Daniel Kalb earned the honor of Student Marshal when he graduated from UC in 2001. He said the community service aspect of the scholarship would stay with him for a lifetime.
