UC School of Social Work Reaccredited

The Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) reaffirmed the accreditation of the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work’s baccalaureate and master's in Social Work programs at its November 2003 meeting.

The accreditation is for a full eight-year cycle ending October 2011.  CSWE, a nonprofit national association that represents 158 graduate and 453 undergraduate social work programs, is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the the United States. Accreditation promotes high quality in social work education, and graduation from an accredited program is a requisite for those seeking social work licensure. UC’s bachelor’s program in social work was first accredited in 1974 and the master’s program in social work was first accredited in 1978.

UC’s School of Social Work faculty and administration worked on the reaccreditation process for two years prior to the CSWE review, conferring with stakeholders (students, social work agency personnel involved in student field education, etc.) about programs and policies, reviewing and revising curriculum, and preparing a three-volume self-study. 

The school was visited for three days in April 2003 by a four-person CSWE site team, who reviewed all aspects of the school and its programs and prepared a report for the CSWE Commission on Accreditation. The commission used the self-study, site team report and the schools' response to the report to make the reaffirmation decision.
