Cox Elected Board Chair
Phillip R. Cox, president and chief executive officer of Cox Financial Corp., has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Cincinnati. The election took place at the May 25 regular meeting of the board.
A 1968 graduate of Xavier University, Mr. Cox worked briefly for General Mills before founding the firm he now heads. He is a member of the Cincinnati Business Committee and serves on a variety of boards, including the Federal Reserve Bank, Cinergy, Cincinnati Bell, Touchstone Mutual Fund, The Childrens Home of Cincinnati, Bethesda Hospital, Tri-Health, the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and Science, and the Ohio Business Roundtable. He is also known as a dynamic and popular public speaker.
Cox replaces George A. Schaefer Jr., president and chief executive officer of Fifth Third Bank, who served as chairman since January 2002. Elected vice chairman was Jeffrey L. Wyler, president and CEO of Jeff Wyler Automotive Family. Re-elected as secretary of the board was Michael K. Allen, Hamilton County prosecuting attorney.
Appointed by the governor of Ohio, trustees serve nine-year terms.
