McMicken on the Move

The opening of Main Street and the implementation of the Collegiate Structures Initiative have worked together to bring some new space opportunities to the college. With the relocation of Professional Practice to the Student Life Center and the Career Development Center to the Unviersity Pavilion, the college has received all of the sixth floor of Old Chemistry. At the same time, the transfer of faculty from Unviersity College as part of CSI has brought with it some new space for the college in Old Chemistry and French Hall.

We’re taking advantage of these space gains to relocate our colleagues from University College into their new units, and to provide several of our units with much needed extra room.

African American studies, Judaic studies and women’s studies will be located on the 6th floor of the Old Chemistry Building.

The Center for Organizational Leadership will be located in French Hall. They will be joined next year by the faculty offices of a new Taft Research Center.

Economics will be opening a Center for Applied Research in Economics on the 16th floor of Crosley Tower. This will be next door to the new CATI (computer assisted telephone interview) lab. of sociology and political science.

The departments of English and history will receive additional space in McMicken Hall.

The departments of Geman studies, mathematical sciences and romance languages & literatures will receive additional space in Old Chemistry.

The college administrative offices will be reorganized on the 1st floor of McMicken Hall.

Zachary Jarrell came to the University of Cincinnati in 2019 to pursue a degree in statistics. In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. For many undergraduates, the journey through college rarely takes the expected track. Detours happen, and majors change. When plans switch up, it can be helpful to a student’s success to find support. For Jarrell, it was the people he worked alongside in the journalism department who helped him on his journey. It has left a lasting impression on his life so far, guiding him to multiple internships as an undergraduate, real-world experience in prominent news outlets, and eventually a successful career in the highly competitive field of journalism.
