Student's Efforts 'Pay Off' for McMicken

Sophomore psychology major, Christy Searcy, became an all-star fundraiser for the university last year by raising $109,100 as a student advocate with the UC Telefund. Her work resulted in $22,741 in gifts for McMicken College alone.

In addition to requesting financial support from the alumni she called, Searcy provided information on current campus events and updated alums’ demographic records. She devoted nearly 500 hours to speaking with approximately 2,500 Annual Fund donors and UCATs members. She received gifts from 1,014 of her contacts!

Searcy plans to continue her work. She says, “This job is really something I enjoy. Not only is it a job full of great people to be around and work with; it also gives me a chance to talk to a lot of great people, the alumni, who give me advice and tell me how their experiences were at UC. This job has taught me the importance of the money that I raise for this school and the importance of reaching out to alumni and getting their thoughts about things.”

Jenny Deveau, Telefund manager, recognized her extraordinary effort when she observed, “Christy’s accomplishments have been astounding…. She is a true team leader for all students involved at the Telefund.”
