McMicken College prepares for UC|21 Implementation

The University has completed the first phase of its Comprehensive Academic Planning Process. The Technical Report, UC|21: Defining the New Urban Research University, defines the strategies that the university will pursue to achieve its goal of becoming a pre-eminent urban research university. The university is now preparing to move rapidly into the first phase of the implementation of UC|21. All colleges in the university are being called on to create strategic plans that will fully align collegiate goals with UC|21.

To respond to UC|21, McMicken College will be augmenting our existing committees. We are creating a new UC|21 Phase 1 Implementation Team for McMicken College. The team’s mission will be to develop and present to the dean a college plan to align the college’s plans, priorities and activities with the six strategic goals of UC|21. This will include preparation of the college’s phase I implementation proposal, which will be submitted by Dean Gould by December 1. The team will include representatives from the college office, Council of Heads, faculty, and staff. Calls for nominations will be forthcoming.

The foundation for our Implementation Team’s work will be the college’s Planning and Budget document, prepared for President Zimpher in May, 2004. Faculty, staff, and unit heads will be invited to submit pre-proposals by October 15 for additional initiatives to be considered for inclusion in our Phase I proposal. An announcement containing further details will be distributed soon.

In addition, the college’s standing and ad-hoc committees will all have roles in the college’s implementation of UC|21:
