Photographic Works Of Jon Hughes On Display In October
Jon Hughes, a professor of English and journalism in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, has two solo photography exhibits scheduled in October and his work will be part of a group exhibit in November.
His documentation of the Amazonas Project opens Oct. 3 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. A retrospective of his work is at Indiana University-East, Richmond, IN, Oct. 11-Nov. 8. His photographs will also be part of a group exhibit at ArtWorks in November celebrating the 10th Anniversary of CityBeat.
The Amazonas Project, a joint project between the University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine and the Clinton Memorial Hospital Family Practice Residency, began in 1995, according to Keith B. Holten, associate professor of clinical family medicine and project co-director.
"Project groups have made over a dozen visits to the Amazon State of Brazil," he added. "During these medical mission trips, medical students and resident physicians have received valuable training in tropical medicine, rural primary care, and multicultural issues."
Holten said that the exhibit of 33 images is a fundraiser for the project. "These beautiful photographs were taken during the April 2004 trip by Jon Hughes, who was part of the team. All proceeds from sale of the images will go to the CMH Foundation fund supporting this activity. We appreciate Jons generosity."
Hughess exhibit at IU-East is a retrospective of his work from 1985 through April 2004. The exhibit will include 27 images, according to Ed Thornburg, exhibit curator and gallery director, representing his Cincinnati and international photojournalism and documentary photography. An opening reception is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13.
