Retired College of Engineering Director of Pre-Admissions and Registration Receives Outstanding Service Award

Diane Buhr, retired Director of Pre-Admissions and Registration from the College of Engineering has been honored by the Junior Engineering Technical Society for her dedication to the JETS program.

"Diane serves as a superb role model for professionals who aspire to get children interested in careers in science, engineering and technology," wrote JETS Executive Director Leann Yoder in a letter to UC. Engineering Interim Dean Roy Eckart presented Buhr with the award.

"Diane Buhr receives recognition award from the JETS/TEAMS for 18 years of dedicated service to this high-school academic contest," noted Eckart.

JETS is a 50-year-old nonprofit organization that promotes high-school interest nationwide in engineering, science, mathematics and technology. JETS programs aim at getting students involved with engineering and preparing for future careers while still in high school.

The JETS “TEAMS” competition (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) is a one-day, two-part academic exam with awards and recognition possible at the local, state and national levels. Teams of four to eight students compete in an open-book, open-note, open discussion that encourages students to think critically. The questions posed represent college freshman-level engineering coursework.

UC’s JETS-TEAMS competition will take place February 24, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. until 3 p.m., with 50 to 60 area high schools competing. For additional information please phone (513) 556-5417 or e-mail
