Faculty & Staff Forum: National Architect Selection
National Architect Selection for the Social & Behavioral Sciences Center
The selection committee for the Social & Behavioral Sciences Center project has been working this year to select the architectual and engineering firms who will design the building. Earlier this year, the committee chose Baxter, Hodell, Donnelly, Preston (www.bhdp.com) as the local architects for the project. BHDP has considerable experience with the University of Cincinnati, with academic projects, and with collaboration with national signature architects. They worked with Frank Geary on the Vontz Center on East Campus, and are currently working on the Genome Research Center. They have also worked on academic facilities at Ohio State, Kent State and Ohio University.
Working with BHDP, the committee is now in the process of selecting a national architect, sometimes referred to as a signature architect or design architect. This firm will work with BHDP to help design a building that is attractive, functional, flexible and that reflects the vital role of the social and behavioral sciences in a 21st century urban research university.
The selection committee has identified three finalists for the national architect:

As part of the interview process, each firm will hold a fifty-minute forum with the faculty and staff from the McMicken College. The forums will provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to learn about the project and the firm's approach to academic architecture. Each will consist of a twenty-five minute presentation and twenty-five minutes for questions and answers.
The forums will be held in Room 310 of the University Pavilion. All faculty and staff in the college are invited.
