UC Students Hold Music Hall Benefit For Tsunami Victims

The UC Chapter of Association for India Development (AID), Sri Lankan Students
Association, Peace Village and Just Community will host an international cuisine buffet dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, in the ballroom of Music Hall. Ticket prices are $50 and $25 for individual tickets, or $15 for students and children under age 13. Donors can also contribute to sponsor tables (eight per table) at prices of $1,500 and $2,500.

Student organizer Sathish Sundaram says the dinner will feature international cuisine, an inter-faith prayer, multi-cultural music and a presentation about how proceeds from the fund-raiser will be sent to reputable organizations that have a history of serving the areas in need of relief.

Sundaram says students are inviting the Cincinnati community to join them for the fund-raiser at Music Hall. Students have been distributing fliers to spread the word. They will be distributing fliers around Fountain Square at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19.

As of Jan. 19, a university-wide tsunami relief campaign, launched on Jan. 11, had raised $14,344 for the UC Tsunami Relief Fund through online payroll deductions and personal checks. The UC campaign runs through Feb. 9 and is part of a coordinated effort with fund-raisers at Xavier University and Northern Kentucky University.

Tickets for the Music Hall fund-raiser can be purchased by phone at 513-621-ARTS or online at www.cincinnatiarts.org. For more information on the UC student Tsunami Victims and Orphans Relief Fund-raiser, check the Web site at www.uc.edu/tvor or contact Sathish Sundaram at 513-886-1996.
