FEB. 8-9: Internationally Acclaimed Film Director Will Share Tips With UC Students

As part of the Andrè Gregory Film Festival, presented by the UC Theatre Project and

MainStreet,

actor and director Andre Gregory will be showing two of his films in the MainStreet Cinema, located in Tangeman University Center (TUC) on Feb. 8-9. The films are free and open to the public.

Gregory will be in attendance at a showing of his 1981 film "My Dinner with Andre" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8.  The following day, Wednesday, Feb. 9, Gregory will also attend a showing of “Vanya on 42nd Street” at 7 p.m.

Following the conclusion of each film, Gregory will conduct a talkback session with audience members, making himself available to questions and comments.

In addition, the showbiz veteran will hold two workshops with select College-Conservatory of Music students on Wednesday, preceding his engagement at MainStreet Cinema.

Gregory has been one of the most important, persevering influences in America theatre for nearly half a century.  He founded numerous theatres in major American cities such as the Seattle Repertory Theatre, the Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center and the Philadelphia Theatre of the Living Arts.

Focusing his talents on the Big Apple, Gregory founded the Manhattan Project in New York City in the late ’60s, which served as one of the leading New York avant-garde theatres for more than a decade.

“My Dinner with Andre,” co-created by Wallace Shawn, has been cited as one of the most influential films in regards to the American Independent film movement.
