Crosstown Rivals Stand United For Tsunami Relief
At tonights 72nd Crosstown Shootout a nationally televised sellout game there will be no mistaking the Bearcat fans from the Muskie fans. Both sides will be passionately rooting for their beloved teams. But these bitter rivals will stand together in a dramatic pre-game ceremony at approximately 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. The ceremony will begin just after the Alma Mater.
Since early January, the campus communities of UC, Xavier University and Northern Kentucky University have coordinated fund-raising efforts to help people devastated by the tsunami in Africa and Asia. The result of the campaign will be announced tonight in a ceremony that features UC President Nancy L. Zimpher, Xavier President Fr. Mike Graham and NKU President James C. Votruba.
UC, Xavier and NKU students representing the 12 countries affected by the tsunami will also take part in the ceremony. Theyll hold the flags of their home countries Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Myanmar, Maldives, Seychelles, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Thailand the countries that are recovering from the disaster.
The fund-raising campaign coordinated by UC, Xavier and NKU was launched on each campus on Jan. 11 and ran through Feb. 9.
