Feldman To Give The Annual Bea Winkler Lecture March 3

Professor Feldman is the Abraham I. Katsch Professor of Hebrew Culture and Professor of Gender and Comparative Literature at New York University, and author of several books and numerous articles. Her most recent study is A Room of Their Own: Gender and Nation in Israeli Women's Fiction, which appeared in 1999. The revised Hebrew version (2002) is now standard reading at Israeli universities for courses in gender and literature.

Feldman was the literary editor for the longest running Hebrew journal, Hadoar, for 17 years and introduced numerous authors to the Hebrew reading public in this country.

She is currently engaged in a study of the influence of the Akedah (The Binding of Isaac) on Hebrew literature from ancient through modern times. During her recent visit to Israel, she lectured on the subject at the Israeli Society for Psychoanalysis in Jerusalem. She also organized and lectured at a symposium at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute in memory of Shulamit Hareven, a leading political commentator and author who died last year.

The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. Parking is available at the university garage next to Lindner Hall. For further information call the Judaic Studies Department at (513) 556-2297.
