UC Camp Introduces High-School Girls to Computer Science and Engineering
Do you know a girl in high school? Is she interested in a career in computer science or engineering? If the answer to the first two questions is yes, ask her what shes doing from July 18 to 22, 2005.
The Women in Engineering and Computer Science Summer Camp allows young women to develop their creativity and provides them with the opportunity to talk to working engineers and computer scientists. In the mornings, the participants will work on hands-on departmental projects, compete in a bridge-building competition and gain experience in working with computers facilitated by College of Engineering faculty and staff.
Afternoon tours are planned for the afternoons to various corporate engineering plants such as Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Corporation, The Gap. General Electric Company, Kings Island, Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), Givaudan and Zimmer Power Plant to meet engineers and see what they do. The experience offers a look at the many types of engineering that people can major in at the University of Cincinnati and pursue as careers. Peripheral sessions are also offered in preparation for college, professional development and Professional Practice (Co-op).
Applicants must be young women entering the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in fall 2005. They should have a demonstrated interest in mathematics and science. Forty student participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The camp will be offered from July 18 to 22, 2005. Cost is $200.
