Taft House at Stratford Heights Opens Sept. 14, 2005

Information as well as tours will be part of noon-time ceremonies as the University of Cincinnati celebrates the opening of the Taft House at Stratford Heights located at 2625 Clifton Ave.  The schedule of events is as follows

  • Ribbon cutting at noon

  • Party moves into the house and to the lower-level lecture area

  • Opening remarks by Karen Gould, dean, UC’s McMicken College of Arts & Sciences

  • Comments from Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher, president, University of Cincinnati

  • Brief address by Richard Harknett, professor and faculty chair, Taft Research Center

  • Remarks by Dudley Taft, chair of the Taft Fund Trustees great-great grandson of Judge Alphonso Taft (father of Charles Phelps Taft and of William Howard Taft, 27th president of the United States)

  • Reception at approximately 12:40 p.m. as well as tours led by the resident graduate students

UC alum credits journalism program with early success

Zachary Jarrell came to the University of Cincinnati in 2019 to pursue a degree in statistics. In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. For many undergraduates, the journey through college rarely takes the expected track. Detours happen, and majors change. When plans switch up, it can be helpful to a student’s success to find support. For Jarrell, it was the people he worked alongside in the journalism department who helped him on his journey. It has left a lasting impression on his life so far, guiding him to multiple internships as an undergraduate, real-world experience in prominent news outlets, and eventually a successful career in the highly competitive field of journalism.
