Transportation Tips For UC's Welcome Week

Parking
UC Parking Services has a limited amount of student decals available. Students may call Parking Services West at 513-558-5606 or Parking Services East at 513-556-2283 to determine if decals are available. Parking and traffic will be unusually congested during the first week of classes.  Various garages on campus will accept cash on a first-come first-served basis. Prior to 2:00 p.m., very limited cash parking will be available.  Once cash spaces are used up, only vehicles with a valid parking decal will be permitted to enter campus.  After 2:00 p.m., cash parking is more readily available. UC Parking Services will provide students with information about off-campus parking and alternative transportation options. See www.uc.edu/parking

Off-Campus Parking
Students who park in the neighborhoods surrounding campus are advised to park safely and legally. In addition, the University of Cincinnati asks students who park in the neighborhood to be respectful of our neighbors. See www.uc.edu/justcommunity

Free Ride Courtesy of Metro
From the first day of class on Wednesday, Sept. 21 through the end of October 2005, all UC students, faculty and staff can show their UC photo ID to ride free on any Metro bus. UC and Metro have partnered to offer this pilot program to boost bus ridership, reduce traffic in the Uptown area, and free up valuable parking on and near campus. Nine Metro routes serve the UC/uptown area: 17, 18, 19, 24, 31, 39, 51, 75X and 78. See www.sorta.com for details.

Traffic
Students are advised to give themselves extra time for the first week of the quarter. Traffic is always congested around the UC campus as new students find their way, and returning students adapt to a new routine. In addition, road construction in the campus area will affect traveling time and off-campus parking, particularly on:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Woodside Avenue and Central Parkway
  • Vine Street from Mitchell Avenue to Erkenbrecher Avenue
  • Highland Avenue from McMillan Street to Stetson Street
  • Oak Street from Burnet Avenue to Highland Avenue

Getting Around Campus
The University of Cincinnati operates three shuttle routes circling the perimeter of campus, connecting the East and West campuses, and servicing the College of Applied Science campuses. The shuttles are free. See www.uc.edu/facmgmt/shuttle.asp
