UC Clermont College Dedicates Student Activities Center & Unveils New Athletic Logo

University of Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher joined Dean David H. Devier, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, community members, athletes, faculty, staff and students in dedicating the Student Activities Center and unveiling the new Clermont College Cougar athletic logo today.

The Student Activities Center is a recycled 16,000 square-foot non-inflatable sprung structure that was decommissioned from the Uptown campus where it had served as the food court while the Tangeman University Center was being renovated.

“This will be the first time our athletes will have a chance to play on their own campus.” said John Hurley, interim athletic director and men’s basketball coach at Clermont College.  “It will be a boon for the entire campus,” said Hurley.

The cost of the finished facility was less than half of a bricks and mortar building and completed in a quarter of the time. The plan to bring the large 88’ x 200’ structure to campus came together after considerable planning and negotiations with the University Architect’s office in the spring of this year.

The facility will be used for athletic games and practices for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.  The structure will also host intramurals and wellness activities and be open to the community for events.

“Many community members have expressed interest in renting the space when it is available for community events.  We welcome the community to come on campus and utilize the facility when it is available.  We believe this new space will both benefit our college family and our local community,” said Devier.

The newly branded Clermont Cougar was unveiled during the ceremony.

At the end of the dedication Dean Devier held up a T-shirt with the new Clermont College Cougar Athletic logo. Each guest received a T-shirt with the new Cougar logo.

The Lady Cougar’s Volleyball team will play host to the Ohio Regional Campus Conference Volleyball Tournament at the new complex on October 22-23 and 29.  This will be the first major opportunity to showcase this creative facility.
