Clermont Home Builders Association Awards UC Clermont Student with Scholarship

Kathy Hutchins was thrilled to be notified that she received an early Christmas gift in the form of a scholarship for $1,000 donated by the Clermont Home Builders Association.

Hutchins, a 19-year old freshman engineering major from Amelia attends UC Clermont College. She is a full-time student and works part-time at Wendy’s in Eastgate to help pay for college tuition.  “Believe me, every single penny counts,” says Hutchins.  “This gift will make things a whole lot easier for me.”

“This is the first year we’ve offered a scholarship,” says Mike Grever of MG Custom Homes, President of Clermont Home Builders Association.  “We started thinking about all those young men and women going into the building trade.  It is important that they receive a solid education.  We are lucky enough to have a branch of the University of Cincinnati right here in Batavia.  It seemed like a natural fit to assist financially to the College and the students who will hopefully be the future leaders of Clermont Home Builders Association.

Dean David Devier congratulated Hutchins on the award, which is both need and merit based.  “UC Clermont College has experienced double digit increases in enrollment for five years in a row.  We now have 3,000 students on campus and another 500 attending classes in one of our five off-site locations.  The scholarship dollars we’ve been able to award in the past just aren’t enough to cover all the students who need help.  I am grateful to Clermont Home Builders Association and the other corporations and individuals who have established scholarships at UC Clermont College.”

Hutchins future looks bright as she has her sights set on transferring to UC’s Uptown campus to complete her engineering degree.
