Fulbright Class of 2005-06 Includes One From McMicken

Four members of the UC faculty earned the honor of Fulbright winners through the U.S. government's flagship program in international educational exchange.

McMicken's Katharina Gerstenberger, associate professor in German Studies, is one of the four. Her Fulbright came through the program’s German Studies Seminar, and allowed her to tour throughout Germany last summer.

In addition to Katharina, McMicken also is the host institution for a visiting Fulbright scholar. Nathir Al-Rawashdeh is an assistant professor of physical chemistry in the Department of Applied Chemical Sciences at the Jordan University of Science & Technology. While at UC through next June, he will be working in the Chemistry Department.

UC alum credits journalism program with early success

Zachary Jarrell came to the University of Cincinnati in 2019 to pursue a degree in statistics. In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. For many undergraduates, the journey through college rarely takes the expected track. Detours happen, and majors change. When plans switch up, it can be helpful to a student’s success to find support. For Jarrell, it was the people he worked alongside in the journalism department who helped him on his journey. It has left a lasting impression on his life so far, guiding him to multiple internships as an undergraduate, real-world experience in prominent news outlets, and eventually a successful career in the highly competitive field of journalism.
