UC Clermont Features Women s Art Club Work in Gallery
The UC Clermont Art Gallery will present a variety of works by the Womens Art Club in Cincinnati, February 11 27 at its campus in Batavia. The exhibit will feature pieces by members of the 113-year-old club, and a reception will be held on February 11 during the Fine Arts Sampler Weekend at the college.
Founded in 1892, the Womens Art Club began with 19 members and a mission to encourage and expose local female artists talents. Today, the club comprises 250 members and represents all art disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, copper enameling and computer-generated images. Members of the club meet monthly to hear expert speakers, see demonstrations and take part in painting opportunities and visits to points of interest and museums.
This is the third consecutive year that the Womens Art Club will participate in the Fine Arts Fund Sampler events at UC Clermont. This special weekend will provide more visibility and recognition for our organization, said Dianne Loos, a club member and chairwoman of the February show.
The Womens Art Club also maintains a studio/gallery in room 501 in the Pendleton Art Center, 1310 Pendleton Street, in Over-the-Rhine. In addition, the club provides scholarships to two outstanding art students each year and conducts workshops for members and non-members year-round.
The Clermont Art Gallery is sponsored by First Clermont Bank and located in the Snyder building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. 7 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. 12:30 a.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. 2005-2006 season sponsors are First Clermont Bank, The Richard L. and Debbie L.
