UC Clermont Volleyball Team Signs Anderson High School Stand Out

Julia Schulte, a setter from Anderson High School, became the first high school senior to sign a letter of intent to play volleyball for U.C. Clermont.  She will be joining the Cougars for the 2006 season.

Julia has been a starting setter for Head Coach Jeff Davis’ Anderson High School varsity the past two seasons.  During her senior year, she won the Best Setter award at the Penn State University Tournament.  She also enjoyed the unique opportunity of playing with her two younger sisters (Maddie and Diana) during her senior year.  Julia began her playing career at Nagel and Immaculate Heart of Mary elementary schools.  She also has several years of experience on the Junior Olympic level - mostly with Lineshot Volleyball Club in Cincinnati.

“Julia has outstanding ability and possesses several years of experience running advanced offenses - both with Anderson and Lineshot VBC.   I especially like her calm demeanor on the court – a must for a setter.  She is definitely the kind of player we need in the program as we explore a possible transition to NCAA Division III status. I am extremely excited to sign Julia,” said Head Coach Joe Harpring.

Schulte is expected to have an immediate impact on a Clermont squad which returns most of the 2005 team.  The Cougars hope to win their third consecutive ORCC West Division title in 2006.  Clermont will also start the possible transition to the NCAA by adding Division III Wilmington College to the regular season schedule.  Coach Harpring looks to add one or two more players to what should be a very competitive squad.
