UC Clermont Cougars Earn Bid to New Hampshire USCAA Basketball Tournament

The University of Cincinnati Clermont College men’s basketball team qualified for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II National Basketball Tournament to be held March 2-4 at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H.

The Cougar’s finished the regular season at 22-10 and won the Ohio Regional College Conference Championship with a 16-2 record.

“I have been really pleased with the success of this year’s team.  With a predominately freshmen team, our success is somewhat of a surprise.  Getting the opportunity to play for a national championship is something that has not been available to UC Clermont teams in the past and our team is really excited to see how we will stack up at the nationals,” said Men’s Basketball Head Coach John Hurley.

This is the college’s second year as a USCAA member. UC Clermont is completing its first year of provisional membership in NCAA Division III.  The Cougar’s will not be eligible to play in the NCAA Division III tournament until they are fully accepted by the NCAA.

UC Clermont, the number sixth seed, will play the host school and defending 2005 National Champion New Hampshire Technical Institute Capitals on March 2, 2006 at 6:30 p.m.  This is the first time in the college’s history that the men’s basketball team has had an opportunity to play for a national championship.  Last year the women’s softball team competed in the USCAA national tournament.
