UC Clermont Courses Help First Responders Become Terrorism-Ready

UC Clermont’s criminal justice program will co-sponsor two terrorism awareness courses for local police officers, firefighters and emergency medical responders on Friday, April 21, on its Batavia campus.

The courses, offered in cooperation with New Mexico Tech University and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, are open to all law enforcement, fire, EMS and emergency management personnel in Clermont and surrounding counties. Two courses will be offered: “Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings” and “Prevention & Response to Suicide Bombing Incidents.” Participants can enroll in one or both of the courses.

Ed Bridgman, associate professor and head of the criminal justice program at UC Clermont, is a local terrorism authority and consultant. He said the fact that the courses are being co-sponsored by New Mexico Tech gives them added credibility because of the university’s history with the U.S. government. New Mexico Tech has been working with and conducting government research since before World War II.

“We are very fortunate to be able to offer these courses to the local first responders’ community,” Bridgeman said. “They’re of the highest quality and nationally recognized.”
