Middle School Students: Sketch Out Your Future Design Career in Summer Camp

Up to 20 local middle-school students will be accepted into an architectural summer camp offered by the University of Cincinnati’s top-ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

The camp for rising 8th and 9th graders will begin with an information session for students and their parents from

2-4 p.m.

Sunday, July 9

. That session will also include information about high school courses – like physics – necessary for entering U.S. architecture programs. Then, the camp will run daily from

9 a.m.-4 p.m

., from

Monday, July 10-Friday, July 14

, before concluding with a Saturday celebration on July 15.

During the week, the camp will include five mornings of design studio instruction as well as afternoon tours of architecturally significant buildings in the local area, visits to local architects’ offices as well as visits to recent design projects, specifically Swifton Commons in Roselawn.

Sites that participating students will visit include

  • Award-winning architecture on the UC campus
  • The Contemporary Arts Center
  • The Freedom Center
  • Offices of GBBN Architects and of DNK Architects

Cost to participate in the camp is $50 and reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis before June 9, and minority students are encourage to enroll since the program is part of comprehensive efforts to increase diversity within the architecture profession. Free Wi-Fi, work area coming to Greater Cincinnati

St. Lawrence Park in Price Hill now has free Wi-Fi and a furnished outdoor space for community members to access digital needs. The space is part of The Nodes Project, which stands for “Neighborhoods of Design Engagement": a collaboration between UC DAAP communication designers and community entities.
