Awards Reception Honors Social Work Students

On Tuesday, April 25, 2006 the Cincinnati Region VI Annual Awards Reception was held at the University of Cincinnati Alumni Center. The 2006 Honorees are:

  • Karen Badger, PhD, LISW – Social Worker of the Year
  • Sylvia Gentry, ACSW, LISW – Outstanding Service
  • Kathy Laufman, LISW – Lifetime Achievement
  • Barbara Mitchell – Public Citizen/Volunteer of the Year
  • Katharine Becknell – B.S.W. Student of the Year
  • Deborah Rambo, J.D. – M.S.W. Student of the Year
  • Representative Tyrone Yates – Public Elected Official

Katherine Becknell, Gary Dick

Katharine Becknell – BSW Student of the Year. Katharine (Katie) is a student at the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work. Her choice to pursue a degree in social work is inspired by the words of humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, “I have always held firmly to the thought that each one of us can do a little to bring some portion of misery to an end.” Presenting the award, Gary Dick, Assistant Professor, UC School of Social Work.

Deborah Rambo, J.D. – MS. Student of the Year. Deborah’s professional career began with a law degree from Harvard. Now completing her master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Cincinnati School of Social Work Deborah said, “When I came to social work, it was like coming home.” Presenting the award, Amy McMahon, Instructor, UC School of Social Work, said that Deborah brings values and skills to the social work profession.
