Educational Talent Search celebrates success with Senior Dinner

Educational Talent Search at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College held its annual senior dinner, May 8, to recognize the achievements of seniors who have successfully completed the program and are about to enter postsecondary education. The dinner took place at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse in Cincinnati.

Educational Talent Search is an educational enrichment program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by UC Clermont College. Educational Talent Search encourages and enhances the intellectual, cultural and social development of middle and high school students in Clermont County through learning experiences that supplement the school experience and promote participation in postsecondary education.

The keynote speaker was Jaime McCauley, Academic Director of the UC Clermont Community Resource Center. McCauley inspired the students with her list of top 10 lessons learned and practical advice on how to overcome obstacles, learn from mistakes and experience fun and success in college. Other speakers were David H. Devier, dean of the college, and Peggy Chalker, assistant dean for Enrollment and Student Services. Each student spoke of his experiences with Educational Talent Search, including field trips, college visits, monthly workshops and help with the college application process.

Some of the students have been participants since the sixth grade. Graduating seniors have plans to attend a variety of educational institutions, such as UC Clermont, Xavier University, Wilmington College, Cincinnati State and George Washington University. Educational Talent Search students represent success.

Seniors attending the dinner were Justin Figgins of Batavia, Lindsey Hedberg, Megan Larkin and Samie Lawson of Clermont Northeastern, Mark Smith of Milford and Lacey Harker, Lauren Kasten and Laura Wilson of Williamsburg. The students enjoyed an excellent meal and an evening of recognition for their achievements.
