UC Commencement: 187 Years of Academic Excellence

UC’s All-University Spring Commencement Ceremony will take place Saturday, June 10, at Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.

The student orator for the 10 a.m. ceremony is Brian McMahon, who is graduating with a bachelor’s of arts degree in electronic media from the College-Conservatory of Music. McMahon is a Walnut Hills High School graduate who grew up in College Hill and Evendale.

Mason Ward of Colerain, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering with a concentration in construction, is student orator for the 2 p.m. ceremony. Upon graduation, Ward will begin active duty with the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer, serving as a Gold Bar Recruiter for the UC Army ROTC program before reporting in October to Ft. Benning, Ga. for further training, and then duty with the 82nd Airborne Division in Ft. Bragg. N.C. Both Ward and McMahon were selected to make brief remarks following an application/interviewing process by the officers of the senior class.

Here’s a special look at some additional graduates who will be marching at the 2006 All-University Commencement exercises:

Kathy Chance earned a UC degree without ever setting foot on campus. She’ll get her first look when she marches at Commencement.

Sisters Amanda Jayne Craven and Jessica Lynne Craven shared everything, including a similar major. For the first time, they’ll be going their separate ways after graduation.

Mallory Feltz could have graduated last fall. Find out why she stuck around.

Sarah Jane Knight is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design and is all set to become a sports wear designer for Target. She’s the 2006 recipient of the C-Ring Award, which recognizes UC’s most outstanding female graduate.

Brian McMahon is keeping the family tradition. He follows generations of family Bearcat grads.

Matt Mezinskis is the 2006 recipient of the Mr. Bearcat Award, which honors an outstanding male graduate for his academic success and Bearcat spirit.

Tyler Pettigrew created his own program to prepare for further work in theology – either teaching or preaching.

The Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence honors UC graduates who exemplify leadership and service on campus and in the community. This year, five graduates will proudly wear the medal during Commencement exercises.
