University Giving Campaign Builds on Success

UC President Nancy L. Zimpher celebrated the successful “We’re All UC” fund-raising campaign following the Oct. 18 State of the University Address in Great Hall. The campaign met its goal of taking faculty and staff participation to its highest level ever: more than 2,100 donors.  President Zimpher also announced that the campaign raised a record $8,968,291 in giving.

“’We’re all UC’ was all about involvement; hence the goal was established for participation,” President Zimpher said. “I’m proud to announce a record achievement in the amount of giving as well. Together, our teaching and research faculty, staff, emeriti professors and retirees placed students at the center.”

The campaign was launched at the April 13 Faculty Senate meeting. The UC Foundation mailed more than 10,000 UC employees and retirees to encourage participation in the campaign. Donors could choose from hundreds of funds, ranging from the UC|21 Fund to their favorite college or department, scholarships, fellowships, medical research or athletics. All gifts and pledges made within the fiscal year (July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006) counted toward the total.

President Zimpher said that between the campaign months of April and June, 221 people contributed gifts of $1,000 or more – receiving recognition in the Charles McMicken Society. Combined with McMicken level donors previous to the spring campaign, the total number of McMicken-level contributors amounted to 562. A total of 166 people contributed at least $2,100 in recognition of the UC|21 Strategic Plan.

The UC Foundation held an afternoon reception, featuring Trauth Dairy’s new red, black and white “Bearcat Sundae” flavor, to thank faculty and staff for supporting the “We’re All UC” campaign. Those who donated $1,000 or more received a signed watercolor print of the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies by local artist Tom Gaither, who was at the event to personalize the prints. President Zimpher received the original painting, and will present it to the Faculty Club to be displayed with last year's McMicken print.

Representatives of The UC Foundation also encouraged all campaign contributors to sign a special “We Gave at the Office” banner at the celebration.
