Steam Heat Rises and Romance Surprises in 'The Pajama Game' Nov. 16-19

The

University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Mainstage Series

presents Jerry Ross and Richard Adler's Tony Award-winning musical,

"The Pajama Game,"

Nov. 16-19, 2006. Performances take place in CCM's Corbett Auditorium on the University of Cincinnati campus.

"Adler and Ross wrote only two Broadway musicals, 'The Pajama Game' and 'Damn Yankees,'" says director and CCM musical theater department chair

Aubrey Berg

. "Both were smash hits and have held the stage ever since. Why? Great scores, funny books, quirky characters and strong show-biz savvy."

Based on the novel "7 1/2 Cents" by Richard Bissell, "The Pajama Game" is a lively tale of love at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, where a fiery female union leader and a handsome new foreman are at odds over a looming employee strike. This delightful musical features memorable standards like "Hey There," "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway." Winner of the 2006 Tony Award for "Best Revival of a Musical," "The Pajama Game" first opened on Broadway in 1954 to rave reviews, vaulting the then-unknown choreographer Bob Fosse into fame.

Continues Berg, "It's a joy to work on such a well-made musical and fun for the actors to research a period about which they know very little--the fifties."
