Surgical Technology Program at Clermont Gets a Welcomed Boost

Mercy Hospital Clermont recently donated a used anesthesia machine and operating microscope to UC Clermont College for use in its Surgical Technology Program.  The donated microscope has an estimated value of $10,000 and the anesthesia machines value is estimated to be $2,000.

"This is a tremendous help to our program," said Linda Baker-Numrich, Director of the Surgical Technology Program at UC Clermont.  "It not only gives our lab the feel of an operating room, but it gives our students hands-on training with equipment, so they wont be intimidated when they eventually go to work in an actual operating room."

UC Clermonts Surgical Technology Program is a two-year associate degree program that was created in 2001.  It is ranked among the top 20 surgical technology programs in the U.S. and has a 100-percent employment rate for students.

Mercy Clermont performs approximately 3,000 operations each year in its Surgery Department and purchased a new anesthesia machine and operating microscope providing the college with a great opportunity to receive the used equipment.

"We are excited that UC Clermont offers such a high quality Surgical Technology Program and were happy to provide our support for the program," said Mark Shugarman, President and CEO of Mercy Hospital Clermont.  "This is another aspect of our ongoing collaboration with the college."
