UC Army ROTC Issues Fitness Challenge

Fitness and fatigues will be on display when the University of Cincinnati Army ROTC Bearcat Battalion sends out a challenge during a special recruiting event from noon-1:30 p.m., Monday, March 5, in the Tangeman University Center (TUC) Atrium.

Cadet Robyn Coma, information officer for the UC Army ROTC, says six cadets and two Army cadre members will supervise a push-up and sit-up contest for people interested in joining the ROTC program. Coma says UC students and other spectators are welcome to join in.

ROTC Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Bush says the cadets are hoping to recruit at least 50 people to take the fitness challenge. They’ll be graded by Army physical fitness standards, scaled according to age and gender.

The competition features prizes ranging from T-shirts to a football signed by Bengals linebacker David Pollack.

Lt. Col. Bush says UC has 78 cadets enrolled in the Army ROTC Bearcat Battalion and more than 150 students taking ROTC classes or sponsored classes such as rappelling, marksmanship, survival skill courses and physical fitness classes.
